My Level
- Level: Beginner
- Listening: Completed Pimsleur's I, II, III
- Grammar: Tae Kim's guide
- Writing: Hiragana, Katakana; studying Heisig's "Remembering the Kanji"
Why Japanese
First phrase I've ever learned was "大丈夫?" from Kagome asking Inuyasha every five minutes.
After that, I was hooked and needed to understand more.
Anime keeps me motivated.
Learning Kanji may help me with my Chinese in the future
How I Study
My approach to learning japanese:
- Audio from Anime
- Grammar from Tae Kim
- Kanji from Heisig
Of course, learn Hiragana and Katakana immediately; you do not need to know any Japanese. Brute force through it -- a week would do it, though you CAN do it in two days if you wanted to, and just review it now and then until it becomes cemented.
I've finished all three volumes of Pimsleur's Japanese, and read all of Tae Kim's Japanese guide (though, I didn't make example sentences to cement that knowledge, so I refer back to guide way too much).
For Kanji, I'm currently working on Heisig's "Remembering the Kanji Volume I" and have Volume II on my desk.
Um...after I finish Heisig's Volume I, I plan to go over my holes in the knowledge in my grammar and test myself on sample JLPT4 tests.
