Section 1
Narrator
Have you heard of Hersenheid Tower the third, people say he was money mad, but that is not true. He was not obsessed by money, rather, he was posessed, it seemed by an evil spirit.
Narrator
With the demon leading him on, he collected the rare and precious from around the world, and bought them to the hotel Hightower. the specimen that fascinated him the most was Shiriki Utundu.
冴子 Saeko
シリキ。ウトゥンドゥ、その偶像の意味は災いを信じよ。その偶像にかかわった者は誰も呪いから逃げられない。
Shiriki Utundu. The idol's meaning is to believe in disaster. None of the people associated with the idol can escape its curse.

冴子 Saeko
父が私に託した釘のなぞを解くために、私はアフリカ研究所に行った。
I went to the Africa research institute in order to solve the mystery of the nail father entrusted to me.
冴子 Saeko
所長のトウドウさんは「久しぶりだねぇ、お父さんは元気かね」と聞いてきた。
"Long time, how's your father?" The head, Mr Todo asked.
冴子 Saeko
父の失踪を知らないのだ。「ええ、お蔭様で」と答えた。
He doesn't know of father's disappearance. "Yes, thank you" I replied.
冴子 Saeko
「今日は何の調べ物かな」と満面な笑みで尋ねるので、つい甘えて「実はこれなんですが」と偶像の写真を見せた。
Smiling all over his face he asked "What will you be researching today?" so I took him up on his kindness and said "To tell the truth, about this." and showed him the Photograph.
冴子 Saeko
トウドウさんはしばらくその写真を見て、裏返した。
Mr Todo looked at the photograph for a bit and turned it over.
冴子 Saeko
裏には父の字があった。「シリキ・ウトゥンドゥ、災いを信じよ・・か」とトウドウさんは言った。
Fathers writing was on the back "Shirki Utundu, believe in disaster..?" he said.
冴子 Saeko
「ちょっと、付いて来なさい。」とトウドウさんは歩き始めた。
"Please follow me" Mr Todo started walking.
冴子 Saeko
後に従いながら、釘を見せるのは止めようと思った。
While following from behind, I thought it best to stop showing the nail to people.
冴子 Saeko
父から送られてきた釘に関わった人は、皆居なくなってしまう。
People related to the nail father sent all disappear.
冴子 Saeko
先ずは写真だけで父の失踪のなぞに近づこう、そう思った。
I thought, first I'll close in on father's disappearance with just the photograph.
冴子 Saeko
「ここだよ」と言ってトウドウさんが案内してくれたのは古い木の扉の前だった。
"we're here." Mr Todo said, having guided me to an old wooden door.

扉には赤いプレートが張られていた。
There was a red plate stuck to the door.
冴子 Saeko
そこには「危険」とだけ書かれていた。
The only thing written on it was "Danger".
Part 2 - 3:20 / 5:30
冴子 Saeko
アフリカ研究所のトウドウさんは自慢の白いひげを触りながら、私を先に部屋に入れた。
While rubbing his prided white beard, the research establishment's Mr Todo let me into the room.
冴子 Saeko
「きゃっ！」と声が出た。
"Kya!" I exclaimed.
冴子 Saeko
部屋の壁側にはびっしりとアフリカ原住民の蝋人形が立っていた。
In the room, by the wall, many waxworks of natives were packed tightly standing there.
冴子 Saeko
>「フフ、びっくりさせて悪かった。君のお父さんはこの場所が大好きなんだよ。ここで何度も夜を徹して語ったものだよ」とトウドウさんは言った。
"Hehe, sorry for scaring you. Your father loves this place. He spent many a night telling his stories here." Said Mr Todo.
冴子 Saeko
彼は急に真剣な表情になり、「お父さんに何かあったんだね。」と聞いてきた。
He suddenly started looking serious and asked "Something happened to your father, right?"
冴子 Saeko
私は二ヶ月前に父が急に消息を絶ってしまった事を話した。
I talked about how I lost contact with father 2 months ago.
冴子 Saeko
そして父の書斎からこの写真が出てきた事も。
And that this photo came from his study.
冴子 Saeko
彼は部屋の奥の書棚からいくつかのファイルを持ってきた。
Mr Todo took several files from a bookcase further in the room.
冴子 Saeko
ページをブツブツ言いながら捲り、やがて「やっぱりこれだ。」と言った。
He flipped the pages whilst mumbling for a bit and before long said "Ah yes, this is it".

私に見せてくれた文献はフランス語で書かれた物だった。
The book he showed me was written in French.
冴子 Saeko
あるフランス人探検家がアフリカ・コンゴ川流域を探索した時のレポートのようだ。
It appears to be the report of a French explorer's search of the Congo river basin.
冴子 Saeko
ページを捲ってびっくりした。そこに写っているモノクロの写真、それは刑事が見せた写真と全く同じだった。
I turned the page and was shocked. It was monochrome picture exactly like the one the police detective had shown me.
冴子 Saeko
写真にはジャングルの中に建てられた祭壇が写っていた。その台座の上に載っている偶像、それは正しくシリキ・ウテゥンドゥ。
The photo showed an altar standing in the middle of the jungle. This idol standing on the pedestal was unmistakably Shiriki Utundu.
Part 3 - 5:30 / 7:40
冴子 Saeko
「この写真に写っている偶像はね」、アフリカ研究所のトウドウさんは様々な文献を広げて私に説明してくれた。
"About the idol in this photo.." Mr Todo of the Africa research institution opened various books and explained them to me.
冴子 Saeko
「ムテゥンドゥーという、コンゴ流域でも、最も恐ろしいと言われている部族の守り神なんだよ。」とトウドウさんは言った。
"..is the protection-god of the tribe said to be the most fearsome even in the Congo basin." said Mr Todo.
冴子 Saeko
「どうしてこんなに金属片や釘が打ち付けてあるんですか、なんだか残酷な感じがします。」と私が聞くと
"Why are there so many pieces of metal and nails driven into it? It seems sort of cruel."
冴子 Saeko
部族の魔術師が魔力を引き出すために打ち付けたんじゃないかと言われていると答えた。
On asking that, he replied that it's believed the sorcerer of the tribe drove them in to draw out the magical power.
冴子 Saeko
魔力、やはりこの偶像には不思議な力があるのだろうか。
Magical power, I wonder if this idol really does have some strange power.
冴子 Saeko
「この偶像には、想像を絶する力があると言われているんだよ。」まるで私の心の声を聞いたかのようにトウドウさんは遠い目をして語った。
"It's said this idol has unimaginable power." Mr Todo told me with distant eyes as if having heard my thoughts.
冴子 Saeko
「その力は邪悪な残酷さを含んでいるんだ。シリキ・ウドゥンドゥには古代のいたずら好きなシャーマンが憑依している。お腹の上を見てご覧、その頭蓋骨の中には秘密の空間があって、２百年以上前に生きていたシャーマン、シリキの遺骨が納められているんだよ。」
"That power contains an evil cruelty. Shiriki Utundu is possessed by an ancient and hateful shaman. Look above the stomach, inside that skull is a secret compartment. The ashes of a Shaman, Shiriki, are stored inside."
冴子 Saeko
背中にすっと冷たい物が走った。
A cold feeling ran down my back.
冴子 Saeko
「シリキ・ウドゥンドゥは何よりも崇拝を求める。それを崇拝すれば村は栄え、それを蔑ろにすれば村は滅びる。」
"Shiriki Utundu seeks worship above all else. If they worshipped it, the village would prosper, but if they slight it the village would perish."
冴子 Saeko
そう言った後、トウドウさんは偶像の掟について話そうと言った。
After saying that, Mr Todo said he was going to talk of the idols 'law'.
Part 4 - 7:40 / 10:00
冴子 Saeko
シリキ・ウトゥンドゥの掟、崇拝する事、燃やさない事、閉ざされた場所に仕舞わない事、疎かにしない事、シャーマン・シリキの遺骨を動かさない事、馬鹿にしない事、他の人には出さない事、放置しない事、そして何より恐れる事。
The law of Shiriki Utundu, to worship it, to not burn it, to not shut it away in closed places, not to neglect it, to not move the shaman, Shiriki's, remains, to not make a fool of it, to not show it to others, to not abandon it, and above all to fear it.
冴子 Saeko
「この偶像の力は計り知れないと言われている。シャーマン、シリキが目を覚ますと偶像の目が開き、内側に緑色に光るエネルギーが見えると言われている。」とトウドウさんは静かに話した。
"It is said that this idols powers are unfathomable. It is also said that when the Shaman, Shiriki awakens that the idol's eyes open and a green light from inside it can be seen." said Mr Todo quietly.
冴子 Saeko
「そして」と彼は私の目を見て言った「偶像に関わった人は皆居なくなっているんだ。」
"And", he looked into my eyes and said "Everyone associated with the idol has been disappearing."
冴子 Saeko
父もこの偶像に関わった。そう確信しているような横顔だった。
Father had also been associated with the idol, his face seemed to show confidence in that.
冴子 Saeko
間違いない、私も確信した。父が私に託した釘はこの写真に写っている偶像に刺さっている釘だ。
I was also certain now that the nail father entrusted to me is a nail that was stuck into the idol from the photograph.
冴子 Saeko
魔力を引き出すために打ち込まれた釘にも、精霊は宿っているに違いない。
There is unmistakably a spirit dwelling within the nails that were driven into the idol in order to extract magical power.
冴子 Saeko
釘を蔑ろにした人は皆居なくなった。
People who slighted the nail have all disappeared.
冴子 Saeko
私は急に息苦しくなった。
I suddenly felt choked for air.
冴子 Saeko
「また来ます」とだけ言い残して部屋を出た。
I left the room, just saying "I'll come again".
