Narrator
Have you heard of Hersenheid Tower the third, people say he was money mad, but that is not true. He was not obsessed by money, rather, he was posessed, it seemed by an evil spirit.
Narrator
With the demon leading him on, he collected the rare and precious from around the world, and bought them to the hotel hightower. the specimen that fascinated him the most was Shiriki Utundu.

シリキ。ウトゥントゥ、その偶像の意味は災いを信じよ。その偶像にかかわった者は誰も呪いから逃げられない。
Shiriki Utundu. The idol's meaning is to believe in disaster. None of the people associated with the idol can escape its curse.

さて、ハリソン・ハイタワー三世がアフリカ・コンゴで奇妙な偶像を手に入れた話を続けよう。
Now, let's continue the story of Hightower the third's acquisition of the bizarre idol.
マンフレッド Manfred
ハイタワー・一行はコンゴ川流域でももっとも恐れられているムトゥンドゥー族の領土に入った。
The Hightower party had entered the most feared Mutundu tribe's territory.
マンフレッド Manfred
恐る恐る上陸した一行だったが、意外にもムトゥンドゥー族は歓待してくれた。
Although the group had landed fearing the worst, the Mutundu tribe welcomed them unexpectedly warmly.
マンフレッド Manfred
酋長のキジャンジは凶器にも見える鋭い眼光を持っていたが、至って陽気な男でハイタワー三世の立派な白いひげを触り、ニコニコと笑った。
The chief Kijanji had sharp glistening eyes that appeared like weapons, he was a cheerful man. He stroked Hightower the Third's magnificent white beard , laughing with a smile.
マンフレッド Manfred
オレンジの民族衣装を纏った女達も、ハイタワー三世の風貌に好感を持った様子で彼の周りを取り囲んだ。
The women wearing orange native clothing surrounded Hightower, seemingly pleased with his appearance.
マンフレッド Manfred
歓迎の席で酋長のキジャンジはこの部族は村の中央の祭壇に祭ってある、シリキ・ウトゥンドゥーという小さな木彫りの像のおかげで守られていると話した。
The chief Kijanji, sitting in the welcoming chair, talked of the small wooden idol Shiriki Utundu which was enshrined on an alter in the centre of the village protecting them.

その偶像を見たとたんハイタワー三世は心を鷲掴みにされたような衝撃を覚えた。
Hightower felt a heart-gripping shock the moment he saw the idol.
Part 2 - 2:41 / 4:40
マンフレッド Manfred
シリキ・ウトゥンドゥーは醜く、小さいただの木彫りに過ぎなかった。更に災いを信じよという意味通りにムトゥンドゥー族に攻撃を仕掛ける者に恐ろしい呪いで災厄を齎すという噂まである。
Shiriki Utundu was nothing but a small ugly wooden carving. On top of that, it held the meaning "believe in disaster" and as the meaning would suggest, rumour was that it would bring disaster to those who attack the Mutundu tribe with a curse.
マンフレッド Manfred
にもかかわらず、ハイタワー三世はこの偶像に心を奪われた。彼は酋長に頼み「この像を手に持たせてくれないか」と頼んだ。
Even so, Hightower the third's heart was taken by this idol. "Wouldn't you let me hold this idol?" he asked of the chief.
マンフレッド Manfred
キジャンジは気乗りしない様子だったが、ハイタワー三世の強い願いに負けて、望みを叶えた。
Although he didn't seem to like the idea much, he lost to Hightower the Third's strong request and granted his desire.
マンフレッド Manfred
偶像を持ったハイタワー三世は記念写真まで撮ってもらった。
Hightower the Third even took commemoration photographs while holding the idol.
マンフレッド Manfred
一度手にするとハイタワー三世の心に変化が起きた。「この像が欲しい」その思いはどんどん強くなった。
Just from holding it that once, a change occurred in Hightower the Third's heart. "I want this idol" That thought quickly grew stronger.
マンフレッド Manfred
今回の探検に収獲はなかった。成果のないまま帰るわけにはいかない。なんとしてもこのシリキ・ウトゥンドゥを自分のコレクションに加えたい。
There were no spoils to this expedition. They couldn't possibly return home fruitless. Hightower wanted to add this 'Shiriki Utundu' to his collection no matter what.
マンフレッド Manfred
ハイタワー三世は光り輝く高価なビーズとナイフをキジャンジに見せ、しっかりと偶像を手にしたまま「交換してくれないか」と頼んだ。
Hightower the third showed Kijanji some expensive shiny beads, and while firmly gripping the idol requested "Won't you trade these?".

酋長は笑みをたたえながらも断った。
The chief rejected with a wide smile.
マンフレッド Manfred
こうなったら力任せで偶像を奪い取るしかない。ハイタワー三世はそう思った。
In that case I'll have to plunder the idol by force, thought Hightower the Third.
Part 3 - 4:40 / 6:33
マンフレッド Manfred
隊員達は武器を取り出し構えた。部族は冷静だった。
The party members drew their weapons and prepared. The tribe were dead calm.
マンフレッド Manfred
ハイタワー三世が偶像を祭壇から取り去っても、誰一人騒ぐ者は居なかった。
Even as Hightower took the idol from the altar, not a single person caused a fuss.
マンフレッド Manfred
村人は憎しみで目をギラギラさせていたが、顔には薄ら笑いを浮かべていた。
The villagers looked at them eyes burning with hatred, but they looked as though they were smirking.
マンフレッド Manfred
ハイタワー・一行は緊張感でくたくたになりながら川を下った。しかし追っ手はやって来なかった。
The Hightower party descended the river, worn with tension. But nobody gave chase.
マンフレッド Manfred
ハイタワー三世は一体どうしてこの部族がこうも簡単に守り神を手放してしまうのか分からなかった。
Why the tribe would give up their protecting god so easily was a mystery to Hightower the Third.
マンフレッド Manfred
そしてジャングルから不吉で狂気じみた笑い声がこだましてきた。
And then from the jungle echoed sinister, slightly insane sounding laughter.
マンフレッド Manfred
それは全ての不幸の始まりの鐘だった。
That was like a bell, signifying the beginning of all their misfortune.
マンフレッド Manfred
初めは彼も呪いについて若干の不安を抱えていた。
At first even Hightower felt anxious in relation to the curse.
マンフレッド Manfred
でもそれは安心に変わった。なぜなら、その偶像を空高く掲げる事で帰り道は全く攻撃されずに済んだのである。
But that changed into relief. This was because that by displaying the idol high in the air, the route back proceeded without them being attacked.

この偶像こそが私にとって一番価値がある。この木彫りの守り神こそもっとも美しい。彼はそう思った。
Hightower thought, For me this idol is the most valuable. This particular wooden god of protection is the most beautiful.

「アフリカから帰国したらこの偶像をホテル・ハイタワーの最上階のペントハウスに飾ろう。」彼はそう心に誓った。
"Once I return home from Africa, I'll decorate Hotel Hightower's top-floor penthouse with this idol." He swore to himself.

彼のペントハウスにはこれまで数度に渡る暗黒大陸への冒険で手に入れた、アフリカの芸術品が飾ってある。
