Narrator
Harison Hightower the Third, ruthless entrepreneur, infamous adventurer. He was a man obsessed, not by money, no, he was possessed by an unholy desire to collect and hoard, he sought the rare and precious from the far corners of the world and brought them back to the hotel Hightower. But one idol fascinated him most of all.
Narrator
Shiriki Utundu. Shiriki Utundu. Shiriki Utundu.
冴子 Saeko
シリキ・ウトゥンドゥ、その偶像の意味は災いを信じよ。その偶像にかかわった者は誰も呪いから逃げられない。
Shiriki Utundu. The idol's meaning is to believe in disaster. None of the people associated with the idol can escape its curse.

冴子 Saeko
1912年にタイムスリップしてしまった私は新聞記者ストラングとホテル・ハイタワーの中に忍び込んだ。
Having time-slipped to the year 1912, I sneaked into the Hotel Hightower with the newspaper reporter Strang.
マンフレッド Manfred
「ここはハイタワー三世に会う者は必ず待たされる待合室です。」
"This is the waiting room, where people coming to see Hightower the third were invariably kept waiting."
冴子 Saeko
壁には探検旅行の写真が一面に飾られていた。
The wall was covered with photos from exploration trips.
マンフレッド Manfred
「アジア、南北アメリカ、ヨーロッパ、これはエジプトだ。ここに写っているのがハイタワー三世の執事だったスメルディング。写真に写っている美術品の多くはこのホテルの中にあります。」
"Here's Asia, North and South America, Europe and this is Egypt. This person shown here is Hightower the Third's butler Smelding. Most of the artifacts shown in these photographs are within this hotel.
冴子 Saeko
「あの、偶像の写真は？」
"Erm, what about a photo of an idol?"
マンフレッド Manfred
「恐らく書斎の中でしょう。さぁ、入ってみましょう。」
"Most likely within the study I should think. Now, let's go in."
冴子 Saeko
「ええ。」
"Yes."
冴子 Saeko
ハイタワー三世の書斎の中は中世の礼拝堂を思わせるような作りだった。
Inside Hightower the Third's study was made such as to make you think it was a place of worship from the middle ages.
マンフレッド Manfred
「彼は竜というモチーフが好きだったようです。」
"It seems he liked dragons."
マンフレッド Manfred
「見てください、ここにも、そしてこんな所にも竜がいます。」
"Look, here too. And even over here you can see dragons."
マンフレッド Manfred
「この部屋はパークプレースの竜と呼ばれているのです。」
"This room is called 'The dragons of Park Place'."
冴子 Saeko
「なんだか、司祭か牧師にでも会うような気分。」
"I somehow feel like I'm going to meet a rabbi or a clergyman."
マンフレッド Manfred
「正しく、それが彼の狙いなんですよ。」
"No doubt, that was his aim."
冴子 Saeko
「狙い？」
"His aim?"
マンフレッド Manfred
「彼は自分に聖なる力があると会う人に示したかったんですから。」
"He wanted to indicate that he had a holy power to those he met."
冴子 Saeko
「それは・・」
"That's a little.."
マンフレッド Manfred
「そうです、神への冒涜です。私はこう思ってます。」
"That's right, it's sacrilege towards god. That's what I think."
冴子 Saeko
「はい。」
"Right."
マンフレッド Manfred
「ハイタワー三世には恐れる物がなかった。恐らく、神さえも。」
"For Hightower the third, there was nothing he feared. Likely even god."
Part 2 - 3:20 / 5:25
冴子 Saeko
ハイタワー三世の書斎の奥には大きな世界地図が張ってあった。
A large world map had been spread out inside Hightower the Third's study.
マンフレッド Manfred
「彼が訪れた場所に赤いマークが付けてあります。」
"The places he visited are marked in red."
冴子 Saeko
「こんなに沢山の場所に・・」
"He'd been to this many places.."
マンフレッド Manfred
「見てください、ここ、これがコンゴ川で、ここがムトゥンドゥ族からあの偶像を奪った場所です。」
"Please take a look, over here, this is the Congo river and here is the place he snatched the idol from the Mutundu tribe."
冴子 Saeko
「奪った？」
"Stole?"
マンフレッド Manfred
「ええ。」
"Yes."
冴子 Saeko
「シリキ・ウトゥンドゥは譲り受けた物では無く、ハイタワー三世が略奪した物なのですか？」
"You mean Shiriki Utundu wasn't inherited, it was something Hightower the third looted?"
マンフレッド Manfred
「そのようです。彼は恥ずかしげも無く、あのパーティの席でそう豪語していましたから。」
"It seems that way. He was boasting that from his chair at the party."
冴子 Saeko
「そんな恐ろしい事を」
"What a terrible thing to.."
マンフレッド Manfred
「彼はその偶像を手に入れた事がよっぽど嬉しかったのでしょう。１８９９年の１２月３１日の夜、その偶像のお披露目パーティは盛大でゴージャスでした。」
"He must have been delighted to have obtained that idol. The night of 31st December 1899, the idol's début party was magnificent and gorgeous."
マンフレッド Manfred
「ただ、私は何か言葉に出来ぬ不安を抱えていた。何かが起きる、何か不吉な事がこのホテルを襲う。」
"Just, I had some kind of unease I couldn't put into words. Something will happen, something sinister will attack this hotel."
マンフレッド Manfred
「ハイタワー三世はエレベータに乗って最上階にある自分の部屋に引き上げようとしていました。エレベータに乗った瞬間彼はとんでもない事をしたんです。」
"Hightower the Third got into the elevator and was about to withdraw to his room on the top floor. He did something terrible the moment he got into the elevator."
冴子 Saeko
「とんでもない事？」
"Something terrible?"
マンフレッド Manfred
「抱えた偶像の頭に自分の葉巻を擦り付けて笑ったんです。呪いなんて信じないとでも言うように。」
"He put out his cigar out on the idol's head and laughed. As if to say 'I don't believe in crap like curses'."
冴子 Saeko
「そんな・・」
"That's terrible.."
マンフレッド Manfred
「それが失踪前に目撃されている、彼の最後の姿です。」
"That was the last time he was witnessed before his disappearance"
Part 3 - 5:25 / 7:32
冴子 Saeko
私とストラングはハイタワー三世の書斎にいた。その書斎の奥には世界地図と彼が特に気に入っていたコレクションが展示されていた。
Strang and I were in Hightower the third'd study. Inside was a world map and the favourites of his collection were on show.
マンフレッド Manfred
「冴子さんあれです、見てください。」
"Ms Saeko, please look at that."
冴子 Saeko
「ああっ！」そこにあの偶像がいた、部屋の最も奥まった所。ゴシック様式の柱の上にシリキ・ウトゥンドゥがいた。そして偶像の背後にはハイタワー三世を描いたステンドグラス。 「これが・・」
"Ah!" Over there stood the idol, in the furthest back part of the room. Shiriki Utundu was on top of a Gothic style pillar. And behind the idol, there was stained glass depicting Hightower the Third . "This is.."
マンフレッド Manfred
「冴子さん、気をつけて」
"Ms Saeko, be careful."
冴子 Saeko
「大丈夫ですこちらが大切に扱いさえすれば何もしない。」
"It's fine, as long as we treat it with care, It won't do anything."
マンフレッド Manfred
「でも・・」
"But.."
冴子 Saeko
「大丈夫、私はこの釘を返すだけ。」
"It's fine, I'm just returning this nail."
マンフレッド Manfred
「冴子さん、ちょっと待ってここに蓄音機があります。」
"Wait a minute, Ms Saeko, there's a gramophone over here."
冴子 Saeko
「え？」ストラングはなんの迷いも無く蓄音機のハンドルを回した。蓄音機から流れてきたのはパーティの前に行われた記者会見の模様だった。
"Huh?" Strang turned the gramophone's handle without hesitation. What played from the gramophone seemed to be a reporter's interview.
冴子 Saeko
記者が「それは呪いの偶像だと言われていますよね。」と聞いたがハイタワー三世は「馬鹿馬鹿しい」と言って取り合わなかった。 「あ・・偶像が」
The reporter asked "That's what people have been calling the cursed idol, isn't it?" but Hightower the third simply snapped "Ridiculous." and didn't respond. "Ah! the Idol's.."
冴子 Saeko
蓄音機から流れる笑い声に反応するかのように、偶像の背後にあるステンドグラスの絵が変わっていった。
As if to respond to the laughter coming from the gramophone, the picture in stained glass behind the idol started to change.
マンフレッド Manfred
「昼の景色だったのに、闇が覆う。」
"It was a noon scene before, but now it's being shrouded in darkness!"
冴子 Saeko
「光が！」その瞬間、ハイタワー三世の絵が偶像を抱えた姿に変わり偶像の目が緑色に光った。
"The light!" That moment, Hightower the Third's picture changed to be holding the idol and the idol's eyes shone green.
Part 4 - 7:32 / 9:40
冴子 Saeko
ハイタワー三世の書斎で見つけたシリキ・ウトゥンドゥは緑色な光に包まれた。そして・・
Shiriki Utundu, which we found in Hightower the Third's study, was engulfed in green light. And then..
マンフレッド Manfred
「だ・・ 大丈夫ですか、冴子さん？」
"A.. are you alright, Ms Saeko?"
冴子 Saeko
「ええ。あの強烈な光、私がこの世界にタイムスリップした時にも同じような光が・・」
"Yes. There was a strong light just like this when I time slipped into this world.
マンフレッド Manfred
「ああっ。」
"Ah!"
冴子 Saeko
驚くストラングが指し示す場所を見た。柱の上の偶像が消えていた。
I looked where the shocked Strang was pointing. The idol on top of the pillar had disappeared.
マンフレッド Manfred
「一体、どうなっているんだ！」
"What on earth is going on!"
冴子 Saeko
「消えてしまった。そんな・・」
"It vanished.. how could.."
マンフレッド Manfred
「蓄音機を回したのがいけなかったんだろうか・・？」
"Maybe I shouldn't have wound the gramophone...?"
冴子 Saeko
「もう、二度と現れる事はないのでしょうか。」
"I wonder if we will ever see it again?"
マンフレッド Manfred
「いや、このホテルの中のどこかに必ずいます。必ず、我々を待っている。そんな気がします。」
"It's definitely within this hotel somewhere. Definitely waiting for us. I just get that feeling."
冴子 Saeko
私たちはしばらく呆然と辺りを見回した。「あ、ストラングさん、あのタペストリー。」
For a while, we looked around dumbfounded. "Ah, Mr Strang, that tapestry."
マンフレッド Manfred
「タペストリー？」
"Tapestry?"
冴子 Saeko
「文字が書いてある。」
"Something's written on it."
マンフレッド Manfred
「ラテン語ですね。弱いドラゴンの破滅は当然の報い。」
"It's Latin, isn't it? 'The demise of the weak dragon is the retribution it deserves.'"
冴子 Saeko
「傲慢な言葉・・」
"Arrogant words.."
マンフレッド Manfred
「恐らく、ハイタワー三世の敵やライバルに対する態度を表しているのでしょう。」
"I think it probably shows Hightower the Third's attitude towards his enemys and rivals."
冴子 Saeko
「本当は臆病で気の小さな人だったんではないでしょうか。」
"I wonder if he wasn't just a cowardly person?"
マンフレッド Manfred
「さぁ、ただ彼はきっと誰も信じていなかったのでしょうね。」
"Who knows, just I don't think he ever trusted anyone."
冴子 Saeko
「あ、ストラングさんここに何かボタンのようなものが・・」 机の下の小さなスイッチ、ストラングがゆっくりそれを押した。タペストリーは隠し扉だった！
"Ah, Mr Strang, there's something that seems to be a button here.." Under the desk was a small switch, Strang slowly pushed it. The tapestry was a hidden door!
